The crest of the Midland Railway, who originally built the Line between Ambergate and Buxton
as part of the route between London St Pancras and Manchester. This one is mounted on the outside

What are the DWVRT’s Charitable Aims?
“To obtain, restore, preserve and operate a representative collection of heritage railway buildings, structures,
rolLIng stock and artefacts for use by, exhibition to and for the education of the public in the infrastructure,
management and the operation of railways between Ambergate and Buxton in the County of Derbyshire.”
What are the Charity’s Priorities?
Darley Dale Station
We have already funded repairs to the down platform wall and temporary platform surfacing. We have also paid for the
Midland railway lamp posts that have been erected on the down platform and for the new Midland Railway style wooden
fencing along the rear of the platform.
Our next big task is the rescue and restoration of the Grade II LIsted building on the down platform at Darley Dale
for community use as well as for railway use.
This building has been out of use since the LIne closed as a through route between Derby and Manchester in 1968
and is owned by Derbyshire Dales District Council. They support our aim to restore it, but there is a lot of work
needed - and a great deal of money to achieve it.
Rowsley Water Tower
We are also interested in working to provide locomotove watering faciLIties at Rowsley, on the site of the
historic loco depot.
Coach
The trust also owns a railway coach that is planned to be restored to running order during 2010. Funding for this project is in place.
Signal Box
The trust owns a former Midland Railway signal box that is under restoration in Rowsley South yard at present. This box will be used
as part of the Matlock extension project of our partner organisation, Peak Rail.
